Kwafubesi Camp: an intimate camp in Mabula Game Reserve
Kwafubesi Camp is a small tented camp located in the Mabula Game Reserve, in South Africa. With just five elevated tents on wooden decks and a maximum capacity of 10 guests, the property emphasizes an intimate setting, adults only (16 years and above), designed for couples and groups of friends seeking an authentic safari experience.
Why choose Kwafubesi Camp
- A private reserve presented as a malaria-free zone, to be confirmed with the camp before departure.
- A human-scale camp: 10 guests maximum, two daily safaris, complete fauna including the Big Five.
- An adults-only format (minimum 16 years) designed for couples or close friends.
- Access to the facilities of the neighboring Mabula Game Lodge (spa, tennis courts, shop, supermarket).
Camp atmosphere
The five tents rest on elevated wooden decks, in a rustic-chic style typical of bush camps. Each tent features a private terrace overlooking the vegetation. The common lounge opens directly onto the bush, and evenings extend around private dinners near the boma, with stargazing once darkness falls.
The tone is deliberately intimate: no large hotel structure, no group activities, but local cuisine and personalized service for a small group.

Across the grasslands and around water holes, you may observe impalas, zebras, giraffes, elands, ostriches, elephants, and hippopotamuses. A resident lion is regularly spotted in the camp area.
In addition, the reserve offers horseback rides, quad excursions, guided bushwalks to identify tracks, plants, and birds, as well as the Majuma experience, an evening outing in the reserve's lion section.
Location
The camp is located in the Mabula Game Reserve, in Limpopo Province, north of Johannesburg. The area is presented as malaria-free, which simplifies logistics for a first safari in South Africa. Plan for several hours of driving from O.R. Tambo International Airport.
When to visit
The reserve can be visited year-round, with two distinct seasons:
- Dry season (May to September): sparse vegetation, wildlife viewing facilitated around water holes, cool mornings.
- Rainy season (November to March): green landscapes, wildlife births, presence of migratory birds.
