Hamiltons Tented Camp
Six luxury elevated tents overlooking the Nwaswitsontso River, in the private Mluwati concession at the heart of Kruger National Park. Setting inspired by the early twentieth century.
Hamiltons Tented Camp, a colonial-inspired camp in the heart of Kruger
Hamiltons Tented Camp brings together six luxury elevated tents on teak decks, overlooking the Nwaswitsontso River, in the private Mluwati concession within Kruger National Park. The establishment cultivates a nostalgic aesthetic inspired by the early twentieth century, where vintage brass switches, steamship trunks and sepia photographs compose a setting that contrasts with the contemporary comfort of the tents.
Why stay here
- A rare location within the Mluwati concession in Kruger National Park, with access to a sector frequented by elephants, lions, leopards and hippopotamuses.
- A deliberate decorative approach with historical inspiration, distinct from more contemporary safari camps in the region.
- An intimate format with only six tents, conducive to personalized service with dedicated butlers.
- Ranger-guided activities, both by vehicle and on foot, in a concession area with low tourist density.
Atmosphere and décor
The camp draws inspiration from early twentieth-century travel interiors. Teak furniture, matching wooden floors, gilded mirrors and white linens compose a neutral palette enhanced by weathered details: brass switches, vintage trunks labeled as survivors of long journeys, sepia photographic prints. Electricity, air conditioning and modern showers are the only hints that you are staying in the present day, not a century past.
Meals are served on the teak deck facing the Nwaswitsontso River, where hippopotamuses regularly appear. The indoor dining room, equipped with crystal glasses and pewter teapots, serves traditional breakfast. In the evening, a campfire extends the day before dinner, sometimes served on the deck.
The tents
The six private tents rest on elevated teak decks. Each features a private terrace overlooking the river and surrounding bush, a separate indoor and outdoor bath and shower, as well as air conditioning and electricity. The layout follows the camp's codes: dark wood, light textiles, vintage decorative objects. Butler service ensures the link with the kitchen and activity arrangements.
Services and activities
- Early morning and late afternoon safaris by 4x4 with dedicated ranger, through the Mluwati concession.
- Guided bush walks led by a ranger for a closer on-foot approach to wildlife.
- Swedish massage available on request.
- Meals served on the teak deck or, upon request, in a more intimate setting on the private deck.
- Afternoon tea served before departure on the evening safari, evening campfire.
Wildlife observable around the camp includes elephants, leopards, lions, zebras, wildebeest, impalas and hippopotamuses, with a good probability of encounters during guided outings in the concession.
Location
The camp is located in the private Mluwati concession, within Kruger National Park, on the banks of the Nwaswitsontso River. This location within the park, rather than on its periphery, guarantees direct access to the territory of large wildlife without long transfers from outside. Access is typically via Kruger's gates or by air through airstrips serving the area.
Nearby
The Greater Kruger region and its private concessions lends itself to combinations with other establishments. To extend the safari experience, Kambaku River Sands and Sausage Tree Safari Camp offer a similar approach in neighbouring concessions. For a stay more focused on landscapes, Blyde River Canyon Lodge provides access to the Panorama Route views, a few hours' drive away. Chinderera Eco Lodge is a more intimate option to round out your itinerary.
